Non-profit theatre company is looking for an assistant to our resident stage designer. Responsibilities will include stage carpentry, prop construction, scenic painting and more. We especially seek someone who is looking to develop in the area of set construction, scenic arts, stage design etc. You must have experience in building theatre sets (and be skilled and comfortable using a table saw and other power tools) or have experience in general carpentry with an interest in doing ongoing work in theatre.
We are looking for someone who can start right away (12/14 or 15--preferably). Internship will run for 4 to 6 weeks minimum but if all works out, it will run indefinitely. We have 3 theatre spaces here and do shows year-round. So we hope to find someone who would like to do an extended internship. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a dynamic company which does socially relevant experimental theatre and runs a youth theatre and other performance programs for thousands of inner city young people each year-- and a great chance to develop your skills.
Compensation: Paid internship: Stipend is $150 per week
